Classes

Class Descriptions

All of our classes will guide you towards enhanced flexibility, strength, and balance of body/mind. Our offerings range from classes held at slower pace with longer-held poses that explore healthy alignment to more vigorous, athletic flowing styles. Below is a full description of our offerings. The goal is not necessarily to think of progress in your practice by “moving up” to the next level. Instead, we encourage you to find options that inspire, challenge and feel good to you.

Each class will also incorporate some aspect of yogic philosophy, as well as meditation and breathing practices to facilitate a deeper inner stillness, and connection to the present moment.

If you are dealing with any health conditions or injuries, please notify the instructor before class.

ALIGN & FLOW

This mixed level class incorporates dynamic postures with an emphasis on alignment. Postures are linked in a flow that can elevate the heart rate, while also improving strength and coordination. Mixed Level Classes assume a certain degree of strength , experience, and endurance, but all levels are supported, and variations in postures will be offered for varying levels of students.

LED ASHTANGA

Led Ashtanga will teach the basics of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition’s breathing & asana sequencing. The pace will be slowed down and accessible for LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2 students. This is not a traditional Primary Series Class, but will incorporate the beginning mantra and the building blocks necessary to create a healthy, sustainable ashtanga practice.

SLOW FLOW & RESTORATIVE

This class is a combination of movement and stillness. A gentle. slow moving Vinyasa practice to warm the body and release the day, blended with restorative yoga to quiet the mind, body and breath. Perfect for any level of student, including those new to yoga, with limited flexibility, those recovering from injuries or those who just want to relax and restore the nervous system.

GENTLE + YOGA NIDRA

This class is a combination of movement and stillness. A gentle, slow moving practice to warm the body and release the tensions of the day, blended with a yoga nidra meditation to quiet the mind, and release, on an even deeper level, the long held tensions and traumas in the body, mind and heart. Yoga Nidra (often called Yoga “sleep”) is a meditative technique that guides the practitioner into a state of deep relaxation, in that space between sleeping and being awake. It is calming for the autonomic nervous system and allows the parasympathetic nervous system to go into a deeper resting state. Just the tonic that we all need!

KIDS YOGA/TWEEN YOGA

In Kid & TWEEN Yoga classes, children learn yoga poses, applying those poses to games and activities, as well as work with the breath. Each class’s activities will range from action games to relaxing stillness. These classes are drop off, but parents are welcome to stay (and play!) if they want to check it out.

HATHA YOGA

This Class is great for getting back to the basics of yoga asana (poses), pranayama (breathing techniques), Meditation and yogic philosophy. Class moves at a slow, accessible pace and can be good for those newer to yoga, or who have limitations/injuries. Different from our flow or vinyasa style classes, this class style usually does not link poses in a flowing way. Learn to use props to support you in poses, as well as ways to modify some of the more common poses. Build endurance, and develop a yoga vocabulary that informs you not only on your mat, but in life off the mat as well.

LUNCH HOUR VINYASA

Targeted benefits are increasing core strength, flexibility, balance and mind-body awareness, 60min is just right to stop in for your midday break, and re-set for the rest of your day!

Pranayama + Meditation

We approach meditation from many different traditions, but all of them are bulit on the premise that meditation is a time of self-discovery rooted in the simple but revolutionary premise that every human being has the ability to cultivate the mind’s inherent stability, clarity and strength in order to be more awake and to develop the compassion and insight necessary to care for oneself and the world genuinely. Meditation has been scientifically proven to correct much of the damage caused by stress, helping the body to repair itself, restoring the body to a calm state, and preventing new damage due to the physiological effects of stress. Pranayama is the sanskrit word for moving prana (life force/energy) through the body/mind and refers to the Breathing Practices that are the bedrock of a yoga. Each class will incorporate a breathing technique and a meditation practice that will leave you more integrated, with greater discernment and clarity. ALL LEVELS WELCOME.

YIN YOGA (ELEMENTAL)

This practice weaves in elemental perspectives with the body’s main 12 meridians to allow optimal flow throughout all organ systems. Through this slower style of longer holds, moderate effort and self exploration, one is able to restore the fluid flow or energy throughout the body and observe the patterns of the mind, abiding in a deep release.

YOGA FUNDAMENTALS

This is a four-week series. Perfect for beginners looking to understand the building blocks of a flowing vinyasa yoga class, as well as for experienced practitioners looking to deepen their understanding of proper alignment and breath pacing in their practice. The series will walk students carefully through the building blocks of a full vinyasa class in four installments.Class 1 begins with a presentation of ujayii pranayama, or the “victorious breath” used in vinyasa yoga, followed by warm up poses. The first class steps through the elements of a Sun Salutation sequence, focusing on each pose in the sequence individually, eventually linking them into a flowing movement. Class 2 will briefly review the first class’s elements and then focus on several standing poses such as the Warrior poses, side angles, and some standing balance poses. Class 3 will include a review of the first two classes, and then explore forward bends and twists. Class 4 will link all the elements of the first three classes, and move onto an exploration of back bending poses as well as one or two beginner level inversions. Students will be ready to move into our level 1, 1/2 or mixed level classes if they choose. Or can repeat the fundamentals as often as they like.
